WASHINGTON-National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Chief Policy Officer Jody Rabhan issued the following statement today upon Senate confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, who is among President Biden’s first slate of judicial nominees.
“It is a new day for judicial nominations in this country. With today’s Senate confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, we welcome an outstanding and qualified nominee to our nation’s second-highest court.
“Judge Jackson has a wealth of experience, having served as a federal district court judge in Washington, DC, since 2013. A former public defender, assistant special counsel on the US Sentencing Commission, and law clerk for Justice Stephen Breyer, Jackson has a history of supporting reproductive health care, civil rights, disability rights, and labor rights. National Council of Jewish Women has been working to advance the rights of women, children, and families for more than 125 years and celebrates Judge Jackson’s commitment to the very issues that are core to our mission and key to ensuring equal justice for all under the law.
“Her confirmation is even more critical when you consider that 43% of people living in America are people of color yet make up only 26% of the federal bench. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is the type of judge we want to see on our federal courts: fair, independent, qualified, and reflective of the incredible diversity that makes up our country.
