Public Affairs Committee: We Need an Army!
By Leila Covrigaru
You know that feeling of frustration when you read the newspaper or watch TV news and wonder, “What can I do?” A glass of wine may feel good, but taking action feels better. That’s the mission of NCJW’s Public Affairs Committee. We are actively working on some of the most important and impactful issues of the day. Learn more about how you can get involved here.
Help us in our work to pass gun safety bills, including those that would allow concealed weapons in schools and voting places; protect reproductive rights; help make period and incontinence (including diapers and adult pads and briefs) products tax free; work on voter rights and registration; and much more. It’s all part of our NCJW mission to improve the quality of life for women, children and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
I used to feel so much stress about the future of our federal government and democracy as I sat on the sidelines. Chairing the committee has relieved much of that stress, as I am actively working to have an impact, along with the other like-minded members of our section.
But we need more help. You don’t have to serve on the committee to be included in our work. Whether you’d like to track bills, make phone calls, write letters, or help with an event, we welcome you to get involved. You can call me at 734-657-6784 or email me at leila@covrigaru.com.
