Documentary and Discussion: Once Upon a Time in Venezuela
February 28, 11:00 am
ZOOM
Join us for a viewing and discussion with the director of this documentary that received wonderful reviews at the Denver Film Festival last year. As confidence erodes under President Maduro and Venezuela shapes up to become the world’s worst refugee crisis in 2020, outpacing the displacement in Syria, the film focuses on the plight of one remote magical, thriving fishing village. It bears witness to the corrosive consequences of corruption and government neglect that reaches the farthest corners and pits neighbor against neighbor in a struggle for survival while telling one women’s immigration story. Beginning Thursday, Feb 25th, you can stream Once Upon a Time in Venezuela. Then on Sunday, Feb 28th, join us for a Zoom discussion with the director, Anabel Rodrigues Rios. The discussion will be moderated by our member, Amy Kaufman Schinagel. Amy was born and raised in Venezuela, so this movie is especially close to her heart. All are welcome. $10 access fee. Please make payment via Venmo at: @NCJW-ColoradoSection or by check to NCJW Colorado Section, PO Box 460892, Denver, CO 80246.
