For the People Act Must be Priority After Recess
WASHINGTON – Early this morning, Senate Republicans once again blocked debate from even beginning on the For the People Act, legislation that would help realize the promise of our democracy. National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Chief Policy Officer Jody Rabhan released the following statement:
“National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) advocates have worked for more than 125 years to expand and protect the right to vote. Last night, the Senate again failed to begin debate on the For the People Act, a bill that would protect the right to vote and reverse anti-voter bills passed across the country.
“The right to vote is sacred and the very foundation of American democracy. When the Senate returns from recess next month, it must use its full power to pass this essential bill. With more than 30 state voter suppression laws already enacted this year, we cannot let anything stand in the way of passing a federal bill to protect our freedom to vote and ensure fair elections.”
