NCJW Reacts to Resignation of Attorney General Sessions
November 7, 2018, Washington, DC — The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) released the following statement regarding Jeff Sessions’ resignation as the Attorney General.
“National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) opposed Trump’s nomination of Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General, and we opposed President Reagan’s nomination of Senator Sessions in 1986 to become a US District Court judge. Jeff Sessions’ record on civil rights and immigration law is in opposition to everything NCJW stands for. While Attorney General, he demonstrated a hostility to the vulnerable communities he was charged with protecting — immigrants, asylum seekers, students, and families. Prior to his post in the administration, his record of racist comments and beliefs led to his rejection by the Senate Judiciary Committee — one of only two nominees rejected by the committee in 50 years.
“We call on President Trump to select a nominee for this position who will demonstrate a commitment to fundamental constitutional values and who are free of the taint of racism, transphobia, and bigotry.”
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action.
